Countless Home Owner Associations need to renovate their color palettes when it comes to their exterior paint schemes.
this house has so much potential! |
Many times members of the association want
to put together the color palettes themselves, Do you think this
will work?
nice accent colors |
In a word: NO! Here's why:
Exterior color schemes can be an HOA's biggest asset.
A new color scheme should be done thoughtfully since the
results, good or bad, will live on for many years. A neighborhood color scheme is originally put together by the builder who had a design firm provide these original schemes.
In designing the plan, there are several
critical considerations:
- style of Architecture
- roofing colors
- landscape style
- ease of maintenance
Notice I did
not mention what colors are on trend. When selling a brand new neighborhood,
trend colors may have played an integral part but that might be what
necessitates the color update. A good selection of classic colors with perhaps
an on trend front door color makes a lot of sense. I also feel that a lot of
options should be available so that repetition is at a minimum and
homeowners can feel like they are a unique individual. Hiring a professional
color consultant is a great way to diffuse what can be a volatile subject among
board members and homeowners. A color professional
will provide knowledgeable choices that will offer curb appeal and
individuality to homeowners through accent front door colors and numerous
combinations that suit the neighborhood’s architecture and style. It is crucial
for a neighborhood’s market value that these color decisions be handled by a professional
color consultant that knows what is going on in the market place and the color
world.
Most every day I work with clients who make terrible decisions about color simply because it is not their area of expertise. A lot of people get hung up about color and choose unsuitable schemes over a suitable one simply because they “love” it. The wrong one is never a smart choice. Clients are getting married to colors with little thought or direction especially about the complex big picture of how this will all flow in a neighborhood. This is just one of many scenarios that steer consumers into a bad color choice. I can’t recommend enough how valuable a professional color consultant will be to the HOA!
